Storia tra natura e autenticità
Il Salento conserva tracce preziose dell’antica civiltà mediterranea, e tra gli elementi più caratteristici del suo paesaggio rurale spicca la Masseria.
The history of Masseria Don Agostino dates back to the early 18th century Founded by the will of Don Tomaso Sambiasi from Nardòas documented in Martano’s catasto onciario dated 1746.
The original structure included “two small gardens attached to the Masseria known as ‘Don Agostino’,” with fig trees, crops, and adjoining structures such as fireplaces, courtyards, stables, lamie, cisterns, and straw huts (pagliari). Its primary function was agricultural.

At the time, the term masseria referred to all forms of rural settlements, typically managed under an agro-silvo-pastoral system by the massaro—a key figure who combined both entrepreneurial and operational skills.
Over time, especially from the second half of the 19th century, there was a gradual abandonment of the countryside in favor of urban centers. In 2007, Masseria Don Agostino was purchased by its current owners., with the intention of bringing new life to an authentic place, in full respect of its origins and historical identity.
